If we die, this is why…

Peanut butter is hard to resist. And that’s precisely why I have so much trouble keeping the stuff at home without gobbling up the entire jar in a few sittings. I haven’t met a person who doesn’t like peanut butter. It’s great with celery, bananas, apples, delicious on toast, in ice cream, in candy bars, the list could go on and on. The one thing that will stop me from scraping the jar clean is a warning on CNN that my Great Value peanut butter jar may contain Salmonella. I decide to immediately dump it in the garbage and move onto my backup peanut butter, the Peter Pan brand. Oops, that one could contain Salmonella too.
Some of you may have heard about this on the news. If not, you can read about it here. They are recalling all Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butters with the product code on the lid beginning with 2111. It’s just odd that we happened to have BOTH peanut butters and BOTH start with 2111. We had devoured the GV peanut butter before hearing this; it’s practically empty. There are no signs of illness with any of us so I think we are safe. But we are not going to even test the unopened Peter Pan jar. So it’s back to the grocery store we go to buy a different peanut butter (and get a refund on the other two)…there’s just no way Allie or I could go longer than a few days without this delcious, creamy goo.

Yikes! I’m glad you guys aren’t feeling yucky at all. Mmmm, peanut butter is delicious though. And – I LOVE your bird feeder! That would be so fun to watch them come and go. It looks like you have a really pretty window view too.

Kerrielou thank goodness you guys weren’t sickened. Especially in Allies case she could have gotten severely ill. Oh my gosh, I am so grateful you didn’t open the Peter Pan. It might have been in there even though it wasn’t in the Wal Mart brand. Wow, you just never know where these bacteria are going to show up, spinach, lettuce, mushrooms, cantaloupe, and now pnbutter. A good reason to grow your own produce and learn how to be self sufficient I guess.

Hmmm- maybe I should check my peanut butter. I have to say- chocolate peanutbutter ice cream is my favorite. It is hard to find, but sooo delicious! Another way to attract birds- is to let your one year old drop a whole box of goldfish crackers in the grass! I couldn’t get it all out. We have had a lot of birdies this week nibling on goldfish.

We buy Great Value Peanut Butter all the time. Thank goodness we bought Skippy this last time though ( I think it tastes the best anyway). I am glad you guys aren’t sick.

I read this article last week too and hucked the GV peanut butter. How ironic that you had both. Hopefully Doritos don’t contain Salmonella or Jake would be in big trouble ;0)

The good news, now we know that Peter Pan makes Great Value peanut butter, so when this little crisis is over, we will never spend another dime on Peter Pan, knowing full well we can get the same thing in the Great Value brand, while paying less. I am glad to see that you buy creamy peanut butter, and not chunky. Chunky seems like a rip off to me, because sure, you get more peanuts, but you get less butter, which is what it is all about. I guess you could say chunky peanut butter is not a “great value.” Pun intended.
