Our new little friends

by Kerrie on Feb.22, 2007, under Kerrie

Not too much exciting has happened since we last made a post…EXCEPT for our awesome new bird feeder. A friend offered her bird feeder to us and I thought, “Allie will love it!” It’s now suctioned to our family room window. If you look out our family room window all you will see are trees. It looks as though we live in the middle of a forest; you wouldn’t know that the UNC Business building is just 50 yards away. My point being: we are in a perfect location for a window bird feeder.

My friend told me it could take up to 2 months before the birds find it and feel safe to come partake. Well, it actually took one hour. Our bird feeder has become the local all-you-can-eat lunch buffet for these little creatures. Between the hours of 10am and 2pm they don’t stop coming. It’s funny, they actually take turns. One will wait on the window ledge until the other bird is finished and then hop on. The Blue Jay, however, is a bully. He cuts in line and scares the others away. There are some beautiful birds here. I need to study up and found out what they all are.

I find myself just staring at them in a daze while Allie runs wild around the house. I thought I got this bird feeder for Allie, but Jake says that it’s just as much for me as it is for her. I think he’s right. What can I say…I’m an animal lover.

How fun! We have 2 bird feeders at our new house and it’s so fun to hear all the birds chirping even in the dead of winter.

We had a bird feeder in our yard for a few weeks hanging from a tree branch and not a single bird came to eat :( Could it be because we have a resident cat in the back yard? We have some neat birds here too. Hummingbirds live in our yard and blue jays too. They are aggressive. We also have tons of frogs and who knows what else. Guess we’ll see as spring comes. Mom
