High School Reunion

As most of you know, we happened to be in town during my 10 year high school reunion. It was…interesting (for lack of a better word). I am very glad I went, but it was almost too surreal. As soon as I walked into the hotel room, it felt like I stepped back in time. Everyone formed into the same cliques. I don’t know why I expected any different…you would want to follow up with the people you hung out with. There were definitely people that were not there that I would have liked to have seen but for the most part, I was happy with the people that did show up. I got to reminisce about the EGGB (Elk Grove Ghetto Booty) club that me and three others were in. I was reminded of how I came out of no where and made cheerleading my freshman year over girls who had been cheering their whole lives (I attribute that to my sis, Hollie. I personally think the only reason I made it that first year was because you were my sister, not because of my talent. Ms. Schecher loved you).
These past ten years have flown by, yet a lot has happened; I left home for college, got married, received a bachelors degree, had a baby, moved across country, etc. I feel like I’ve grown up a lot. Somehow, through all the experiences, I haven’t aged in appearance. I still look 17. They gave out awards at the reunion and I was chosen from my table for the person that looks exactly the same as they did in highschool. That’s a good thing, right?

We also had a Seminary reunion, hosted by the awesome, Stephanie (George) Martinez, that same day. It was neat to see where we all are in life. Jake met Darrell Thornock (the red headed kid in the second picture) and we talked about the name and wondered how far back we are related. One of the girls has five kids. I can’t imagine what that would be like. Jake definitely wouldn’t be doing a PhD right now, he’d be making money at some big accounting firm. It was great…I just wish Shirley, Diana and Andrea were there. We missed you guys. Anyway, thanks Steph for putting that together. It was fun!

Fun, fun, fun! I liked seeing the highshcool and now pictures – I bet Stephanie looks a lot like her highschool picture too.
(that’s a compliment – you both look GREAT) I still wish I could have made it, but I’ve had fun flipping through the old ‘bio-book’. Thanks for the post!

“The red-headed kind”

A fine description of the the great Thornock division me lady.
Glad you had fun and I enjoyed your social observations about cliques. Kind of sad, but true.

Whooot- Weeeere (that’s supposed to be the sound of me whistling), what a babe! Yeah- how did you get your hair so silky and shiny? I’ve never seen my hair look like that. Anyhoo, be glad you still look seventeen, in about 5 years you’ll be plucking chin hairs (shhh, Thayne doesn’t know I do that).

I’m glad you had fun at your reunion. I hope this doesn’t come our wrong but I think you were hot in high school and even more hot now:) I think it’s a compliment that you got that award because a lot of people (like myself) gain weight after high school and look different.

Wow, thanks for all the compliments. Jill and Jen, I had a lot of Paul Mitchell skinny serum in my hair that day (Plus somehow after I got pregnant with Allie I noticed my hair was less frizzy…I don’t know if it was pregnancy or the Nu Skin products I’ve used for years). Shirley, Steph does look amazing as do you!

I totally agree witht the whole “stepped back in time” thing. I felt the same way at mine. You look gorgeous in that picture. I don’t think you made cheerleading because of me. You were very coordinated and a better dancer than I was. However, maybe they just liked our long hair and cheesy smiles. j/k

Kerrie,
Great pictures! This is JR’s cousin by the way and yes, JR and Darrell are related! I actually met Darrell and Todd (Darrell’s brother) during my Freshman year at BYU. We hung out a lot and Todd ended up marrying my roomate Samara. I went to his parents’ house in Orem where we broke out the genealogy and figured out we are 2nd cousins twice removed or something. His brothers and sisters look like my dad’s and Rich’s brothers and sisters! Looks like you guys had a great time! Hope everything is going well for you.

I am so glad you came with me to the reunion. It was definitely – interesting – as you put it, but it would have been more lame if you hadn’t been there with me! I agree with the others…you were hot in HS, but you’re even hotter now.
