Our Extremely Fun Week

My sister, Jennifer, and her family came out to visit. We met them at a beach house in Corolla, NC. On our drive to Corolla we stopped in Kitty Hawk, where the Wright Brothers flew an airplane for the first time in 1903. Here’s a demo of the plane:
And here is the memorial for the Wright brothers:
The beach house is owned by the parents of Jennifer’s friend so we were able to go for practically free. We just had to pay for utilities and food. It is a gorgeous house! Nine bedrooms, all perfectly decorated. Here is our bedroom:
There is a theater room and a game room with a pool table. We were actually able to watch General Conference on Sunday in the theater room. It was awesome!
We spent a lot of time on the beach. The weather was perfect, in fact, it was quite hot. The ocean water felt great.
At nights we played games and watched movies and ate plenty of junk food. Unfortunately, Jake only got to spend one day there (he had to go back to school).
I hopped in Jen and Thayne’s rental minivan and we drove back to Chapel Hill on Tuesday. On Wednesday we went to Duke Gardens. The kids had fun feeding the geese, ducks, turtles and catfish, which there were hundreds of.
We then went to the Durham Museum of Life and Science . The museum is huge with an indoor and outdoor area. There are so many hands on activities and fun things to look at. One of my favorite exhibits is the butterfly house. You walk into a room and butterflies are flying everywhere.
After the museum we took them to a local southern BBQ restaurant.
The next day we went boating at a reservoir. Although the weather had been quite hot the previous days, this day was chilly. The wind was blowing and we were cold. We rowed over to the other side of the lake and had some snacks.
That night we went to the UNC vs. Duke women’s soccer game. UNC women’s soccer team has won many national championships. It was fun to see the best soccer players in the nation play. UNC won…go Tarheels! The best part of the game is that we all got free UNC t-shirts.
The Christensen’s left this morning. They were headed to Virginia and then to D.C. I’m sure they’ll have plenty to blog about when they return. We had so much fun…it just went by way to fast. It really made me miss having family close by. And Allie loved playing with Kaden and Hailey! She has been asking about them all day. Hopefully we will live close to family in the future.

It’s so gorgeous there! What neat experiences you are having. I’m glad you have something fun to blog about. I’ll have to live through everyone else’s blogs since I really don’t have anything new or exciting going on in my life.
