Sick of being sick

by Jake on Jan.26, 2009, under Baby, Kerrie

I'm not feeling well
This picture doesn’t show it well, but he has a rash all over his body.

This winter is beginning to seem extremely long. Now that I have two kids, I have double the illnesses to deal with. Both kids seem to catch every bug that crosses their path and then they pass it to the rest of the family. This past week has been especially hard on Luke. He had an infection that he has been taking antibiotics for, had a fever for three days, now a rash (Roseola), a slightly pink eye, diarrhea, eczema and of course a runny nose that he seems to have had all winter long. I don’t remember Allie being this sick when she was his age (however, with preschool and primary she is probably passing the germs to Luke).

Although its been a rough week for us, I did have an extremely sweet moment with Luke. One night Luke woke up and was inconsolable. After an hour of trying all the usual tactics to get him back to sleep, nothing was working and I was desperate. So, I laid down with him and we snuggled in bed. He immediately stopped crying and he started to gently caress my arm with his fingertips; up and down, ever-so lightly, for a good 20 minutes. (This is very unusual for him as he normally swats, pinches or claws). He went right back to sleep after that. It was precious and a moment I will probably never forget.

I’m hoping for a healthy and well rested week ahead. Especially since Jake is going out of town for the weekend.

That is so sweet! That’s when you know you’re pretty darn lucky to be the Mommy… no one else in the world can have experiences like that. :) I hope Luke and the whole fam feel better soon. I think Porter passed a lot of germs to Jade too. She seemed to be sick a lot more than he did as a baby. Good luck w/o jake! I wish I could come over and help, if only… ;)

I totally understand. My baby has been sick way more than Liberty ever was. In fact, she is on round four of RSV right now! It gets really old dealing with sickness. Poor Hannah is sick of being sick as well, I am sure of it! Good Luck with all of that. Also, we have made our blog private. I sent an invite to Jake’s email- so I hope that I have the right email address for him. If he hasn’t received the invite tell him to email me at erin320(at)juno(dot)com. Thanks!

What on earth! That poor little guy. I can see the rash on him. Poor baby and poor mommy. Yes, I would have to say the toughest part on moms is having sick kids. And the more you have the more germs come home with them from school, etc. Maran had an ear infection at 6 weeks old. The pediatrician said it wasa the youngest she’d ever seen a child with an ear infection. We know she caught the cold from one of her loving older sibs. :) At least they do get through it and get stronger and stronger. But it is not fun while they are sick. Hope you have a better week. Love ya tons. Mom

Poor Lukey Pokey. Hopefully he gets all better soon. Having a sick child is one of the most frustrating and sad things. I fear for next year with my little ones getting sick.

Poor baby and mom! I can relate this week, Ella had an ear infection and cough, that lasted for 5 days. I think her eardrum burst. It’s exhausting trying to console them during the night. How’s he doing now?

wow, that’s so hard. In my family, Kenzie is never sick, Braden is sick sometimes. And when he is sick, he is knocked out, and Tyler was sick a LOT. I hope they all get better soon. You know, some of my favorite memories of raising my babies is in the middle of the night when they need you and you’re there for them. That is such a sweet story.

Oh, Kerrie I feel for you.I had the same experience with Dominic when he was 8 months old.I think I am scarred for life.I remember being so frustrated and sad that I couldn’t help him and of course David was working. They ALWAYS seem to get sick when daddy is away.
What a precious moment you had.I think every mom has a memory bank of those moments that they carry for life and draw on them from time to time.
Miss you guys!We hope to meet this little guy sometime!Love ya!
