Let’s chat

by jthornock on Feb.02, 2008, under Uncategorized

If you haven’t heard of Skype, now’s the time. I’ve recently been experimenting with calling our friends and family over the computer and had wonderful results. I took a picture of a chat with Greg and my dad and their families…all at the same time…but I can’t get it to work. For now, just imagine all of us seeing each other while we talked.

Also, if you’re interested, not having a webcam is no excuse. Here’s a link to a basic camera for five bucks after rebate.

Come on, let’s chat!!!

We’re home

by jthornock on May.11, 2005, under Baby

Hey dudes,

We are home after many moons at the Hospital. It was nice to be there, but it’s always good to be home. We’ll see how lil Allie likes the basement apartment. Hopefully, we’ll get a decent amount of sleep :)

So far she is a super good baby. She only cries when she gets very hungry, so we try to avoid that by feeding her every 2-3 hours. It’s amazing how much of this parenting thing just comes natural…but “we aint seen nothin yet.”

Well, I’ve got alot to do to catch up, but I promise more photos tomorrow. She’s getting cuter by the second…so I promise that the pics will be up, so you can croon over her like we do! Thanks for all your love and support.

And her name is…

by jthornock on May.09, 2005, under Baby

We’ve finally come up with a name for our baby…and it’s the name we’ve thought about all along. Her name is Allie Marie Thornock.

She’s already changing so much from when she was born yesterday. And we’ve fallen deeply in love with her. She’s a good baby…she sits and stares into your eyes with her beautiful blue eyes. She eats really well. Sometimes, it takes a couple minutes for her to latch on, but once she does, she eats for hours! The swelling on Allie’s head has gone down some (much less coney), but she still has some bruises on her head from so many hours of contractions. She’s getting cuter by the minute!

Orem Community Hospital has been great to us. The nurses are very understanding and loving. We’d love to hear from y’all. Feel free to check with us and come visit. We’ll be there another couple days because of the Cesarian, so it’s nice to have company.

I’ll get some more pictures up today or tomorrow!

We are proud parents!!!

by jthornock on May.08, 2005, under Uncategorized

Finally!!! This has been quite an ordeal…a 56 hour ordeal. Since I am sitting here at the hospital, I’ll keep this short.

Stats:
1. Cute, chubby girl.
2. Born at 1:10pm on May 8th.
3. Born via C-section.
4. 8 lbs, 4 oz
5. 21 inches long

Here’s the time line:

5:30am Friday – Strong contractions began, about 7 minutes apart. They didn’t stop until the baby was born today at 1:10pm.

10:00pm Friday – Kerrie finally convinced herself that she could go to the hospital.

11:00pm Friday – The nurse hooks Kerrie and the baby up to monitor them. The baby’s heart rate dropped below 60 beats/minute for 2.5 minutes. The Dr. decided to monitor Kerrie for a few hours.

3:00am Saturday – The hospital releases Kerrie with a morphine shot. Kerrie finally can relax. Her contractions slowed to every 10 minutes. She was dialated to a 2.5.

1:00pm Saturday – Kerrie having a hard time feeling the baby. We go back to the hospital for a check up. Kerrie is only dialated to a 3.

10:00pm Saturday – Kerrie’s contractions average 5 minutes. She is in serious, tearful pain. Unfortunately, she’s not dialated any more…still a 3. Three nurses confirm that Kerrie’s pelvis is very narrow.

1:00am Sunday – Kerrie is still having serious contractions, but she’s not progressing. Luckily, another one of Dr. Judd’s patients came into the hospital, so he decides that he’ll take two at once. Otherwise, Kerrie would have had to get induced on Monday.

2:00am Sunday – Kerrie is still only dialated to a 3. She gets an epidural and some pitocin.

4:00am Sunday – Kerrie’s water breaks on its own.

5:30am Sunday – Kerrie is dialated to a 4.5. Dr. Judd remarks that her pelvis is very small, but that our little girl might fit through there. Kerrie tries to sleep and the nurse checks her every hour.

11:00am Sunday – Kerrie hasn’t progressed in six hours. She’s still having serious contractions, now every 3 minutes. Dr. Judd wants to monitor for one more hour. If no progress, he suggested a c-section.

12:30pm Sunday – Dr. Judd checks again…he asks the nurses to prepare for a c-section. Kerrie gets a lot more drugs.

1:10pm Sunday – Dr. Judd takes out our little girl. She screams for 15 minutes straight.

We haven’t decided on a name for her yet. She’s got very blue eyes and short brown hair. She’s got the typical conehead, with some bruising high on her forehead from banging against the pelvis. She’s very alert and has a very loud cry. We love her already. Thanks for your love and prayers.

Baby News…

by jthornock on May.07, 2005, under Uncategorized

This baby is getting major spankens. Kerrie has been having strong contractions for the past two days, but little is happening. After a full day of contractions yesterday, Kerrie was bushed.

So, we went to the hospital last night at about 10:30 because they said that they would give Kerrie some drugs that would help her sleep. When they checked her out, the baby’s heart rate dropped to below 60 beats/second for almost 3 minutes. The nurse put Kerrie in an oxygen mask and gave her an IV. We stayed there to be monitored until 2:45 this morning. Luckily, the heartrate came back to normal and stayed that way. Kerrie got a morphine shot and we came home for some restless sleep.

Here are the stats so far: Kerrie is dialated to a 3 and she’s 80% effaced. But, our doctor apparently believes that his weekends are sacred, because he won’t induce Kerrie until she’s dialated to a 4. He said he’d check her out on Monday. She’s currently having painful contractions every 5-7 minutes…she’s been constant at that rate for over 36 hours!! Keep Kerrie and the baby in your prayers. :)

Construction Update

by jthornock on May.04, 2005, under Uncategorized

Hey all,

Well, we actually have seen progress in the construction at our apartment. It’s been a long, painfully slow process, but they finally got the concrete cut for all four windows. The windows are HUGE compared to the other ones in our house, which will be nice when the place burns to the ground (which, given the wiring, could be anyday now).

I’d love to upload some pictures but unfortunately our apartment is still in shambles…one of these days I’ll get more pics uploaded (that’s what I’ve been saying since last month right?). We’re now waiting on the sheetrock dude to come put the walls back together and to paint. Hopefully, they’ll also put the carpet in by Friday, so that Maran and Scott have the weekend to move in. I have a hunch that the baby could be born this weekend, so the timing might work out perfect!

Last night we stayed at my mom’s house to get away from the dust…it was fun to visit and have a sleepover. We were going to make baby bracelets for our little petunia, but we didn’t have the string to do it. I hate to admit it, but I LOVE baby jewelry. We’re pretty excited to dress our little daughter up. But, I don’t think we’ll pierce her ears, as is becoming the trend nowadays.

Let’s see…what else is new? Oh, I am on an intramural softball team…which is a first at BYU. I have played city league a couple years since the mission, but this is my first intramurals at the Y, which is kinda sad considering I have only a year left. Well, that’s about it! Please keep coming back and stay in touch!

Baby…not yet

by jthornock on May.02, 2005, under Uncategorized

Does it seem like this process is dragging on to anybody else? We are absolutely dying…

We went to see Dr. Judd this morning. Kerrie is dialated to a one, which was decent news, but somewhat disappointing given the news you’re about to read. The good doctor told us our baby is going to be pretty large. If Kerrie goes full-term, the baby will be around 8.5 pounds. If she goes late, it could easily be a nine-pounder. This was not the news that poor, swollen Kerrie wanted to hear. But at least we have the technology to know.

Well, the construction is supposedly going to be completed tomorrow evening. Since the windows were special ordered, they took several weeks to get here. They got here last week. But because of the gloomy weather we’ve had for the past few weeks, they couldn’t cut the concrete. Tomorrow is supposed to be mostly sunny, so hopefully they can pull it off in one day.

After the windows, Maran and Scott’s side will also be painted and recarpeted. We hope that all of this will be done before Friday so that they can move into their apartment this weekend. It would be pretty cramped if we had to bring our baby home to a construction zone packed with two couples in it! Well, that’s the news!
